The Sign at My Doorstep

चौ गिर्द हमारे राम का दुख लगे ना भाई..

It was Sunday, and we were blessed to host Guruji’s Satsang at our home. We all are aware that Guruji is Mahashiv Himself. The house was filled with sangat, shabad, prayers, and His divine grace. Everything unfolded beautifully, and by the end of the day, everyone had returned home.

As we began cleaning up after the Satsang, an unexpected wave of emotion came over me. Quietly, from the depths of my heart, I prayed:

“Guruji, if You truly came today, then please show me somehow.”

I don’t know why those words came out so intensely. They weren’t planned. They simply arose from a longing to know that He had accepted our humble offering. My uncle gently reminded me, “Don’t ask Maharaj for signs like that.”

But in that moment, I wasn’t trying to test Him. I was simply speaking from love.

Deep inside, I also felt something I couldn’t quite explain. Usually, on Satsang days, I experience Guruji’s presence so strongly that my heart feels completely immersed in His energy. This time, however, I didn’t feel that same intensity. A small part of me wondered if perhaps He might come in my dream that night and reassure me.

The next morning, I woke up remembering no dream at all. For a brief moment, I felt a little low.

After finishing my morning prayers, I followed my daily routine of opening the front door to welcome Surya Dev. Our entrance has two doors—a wooden door and a glass door. Normally, I only open the wooden one.

But that Monday, for no particular reason, I felt prompted to open the glass door as well, almost as if I wanted to let fresh energy flow into the house.

The moment I opened it; I noticed what looked like a small belt lying beside the doormat.

My first thought was, “One of the children who came for Satsang must have left it here.”

As I reached down to pick it up…

It moved.

It wasn’t a belt.

It was a small snake.

Saakshat Nag Devta.

I screamed, ran back inside the house, and stood there trembling. I remained in shock for hours. When my uncle came downstairs and heard what had happened, he simply smiled and laughed.

“You were the one asking Guruji whether He had come,” he said. “Now He has given you your answer.”

His words stayed with me.

Guruji is Mahashiv, and the serpent has always been one of Lord Shiva’s most sacred symbols. The encounter happened on a Monday, a day dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was the morning after Guruji’s Satsang at our home, and also on Poornamashi!

That evening, I attended another Satsang. Before it began, the host sangat unexpectedly handed me a flower garland and requested that I welcome Guruji and place it at His holy charan.

The moment I held that garland, my hands began to tremble.

It wasn’t fear.

It was something deeper—an overwhelming sense that Guruji, in His own silent way, had responded to what I had asked from my heart.

Not through words.

Not through a dream.

But through signs that only the heart can understand.

As I reflected on the experience, three messages became clear within me.

The first was fearlessness.

The whole world fears snakes, yet Lord Shiva wears Vasuki, the king of serpents, around His neck with complete ease. What others fear becomes an ornament for Him. It is a reminder that where Shiva is, there is no fear. Our Guruji is Mahashiv, His presence teaches us to walk through life without fear, trusting Him completely.

The second was acceptance.

I had prayed to Guruji to show me if He had truly come to the Satsang. The very next morning, on Somwar (Monday)—the day of Shiva—I encountered a serpent at my doorstep. To my heart, it felt like a gentle assurance that our prayers had been accepted.

The third was divine protection.

The serpent appeared right at the entrance of the home, like a silent guardian. It felt as though Guruji was reminding us that His energy surrounds the house and protects the family at all times. Where His grace resides, no negativity can enter.

Perhaps someone else may see only a snake.

But I saw my Guru answering a prayer I had whispered with tears in my eyes.

And once again, I was reminded:

There are no coincidences. Only His choice.
